Initial Concepts:
Between us, after walking around the school and assessing all the areas, we have decided that we want to find areas which are not normally seen as exhibiting places. We would try and incorporate some visual interactivity within these areas, so that the visitor has a continuous flow of artwork, not just in the designated usual areas. We have come up with three concepts up to now:
Concept 1:
We have noticed that no use is normally made of the front of the college, consisting of the large space on the tower and the areas on either side which are adjacent to it. One of our ideas is to make a set of three large billboard/banners, one on each building, with the centre banner giving details of the exhibition plus the MCAST logo and the others having some form of collage of the students' artwork to give a taste of what the visitor might expect to see inside.
This we believe is achievable since there is the use of an A0 printer in the school. We would most likely need to hire someone to help hang the banners i.e. cherry picker.

Concept 2:
This is an indoor installation, which would be located on the staircase between the first and second floors. Here, there is an excellent area to design some visual interactive installation as the steps will be used constantly by the visitors.
The design which we are considering currently is some form of paper-based optical illusion, that would be made up of our previous degree work from all three team members in the form of a "collage/ mixed media". This would be fixed to the walls and the paper/ material would protrude out in such a way that we can install lighting. This would shine up through the cuts in the paper, giving the illusion that the design is alive as seen currently in cave painting, when shimmering flames hit the cave walls. This is one idea but we are also considering other possibilities when it comes to the illusion of the design.
Material we are thinking of using is some form of thick paper, transparencies, kartonchin or possibly foam board.
We are also considering constructing a small stand which would be placed at the edge of the steps. This would server firstly as a barrier to prevent viewers from getting near the artwork since it needs to be viewed from a distance. The second use is to act as a stand which would hold a "pop-up portfolio" which we plan to produce to showcase our team artwork of the previous units.
Below are the links to videos showing techinques we would like to adapt for our installation:

Concept 3:
The final concept is similar to concept 2 but is on a larger scale located within the garden area, which is once again connecting areas between buildings which visitors must use to get between exhibiting points.
The idea is to place protruding designs along both the low-based garden walls to give the idea, if this is possible, that the image is moving, possibly appearing to watch the visitors, for example. To further enhance this design, we intend to start with a design on the other side on the canteen wall, which would flow from the floor to connect with the artwork on the garden walls. In the evening we plan to place lighting strategically to shine on the design, creating an interesting lighting feature.
Our concern obviously is the weather, since it is an outdoor design and we are currently investigating materials which would be suitable to achieve this concept as well as cost effectiveness. We are currently researching into visual interactive techniques to see how these could be implemented into our concept. A number of photo manipulations have been done of the areas we are focusing on.
The design we are considering would be a mixture of works from the team members scholastic work as well as new art which would be specifically designed to work with the visual interactivity of the installations.
